  1. In the past, the word "homophile" was used rather than "homosexual". But somewhere along the line, homophile ended up being treated as a slur. Even though, linguistically speaking, homophile paints a more flattering picture than homosexual does, since "phile" is from greek and means "love". Whereas "sexual" just sound more base and animalistic.
