Just look at the ethnic demographics of Luhansk and Donetsk. It'll make more sense why people are waving Russian flags over there. These places aren't populated primarily by Ukranians, but by ethnic Russian families. Some have lived there as far back as before WWII, others settled there during Soviet times. They don't want to be forced into an EU or NATO membership by the Ukranian government in Kiev.

@VladK-1 Enforced language wasn't the only government abuse either. I have a lot of first hand testimonies from ethnic Russians who lived there how the Ukranian government basically treated them like second class citizens, solely for being ethnic Russians. And this went on for many years even before the Euromaidan. Is it any wonder why they dislike the Ukranian government?

@Fireballl14 Not really. But if a supposedly Asian Chinese demographic in Siberia decides they've had enough of Russian oppression, I won't be the one to chastise them for it.
