It's not just not wanting to fight for Britain. We've also seen how the British government is intensely disloyal towards it's troops. Like with that stellar example of the government wanting to prosecute veterans who followed their orders when dealing with the IRA during the troubles, several years after the fact. Like you're told what to do by one government and you follow those orders. Then another government several decades later decides that you should be prosecuted for following orders. What kind of a moron would sign up for that and also put their own life on the line?

If you feel undervalued at your current job, joining the armed forces will not really improve that situation 🤣

@PanelVulture Losers in a war always tend to be prosecuted for "warcrimes" by the victors. What i'm talking about here is when British troops get betrayed by THEIR OWN government.

@Tangarisu Everyone is too busy keeping their heads down and trying to not rock the boat.

@BusbyTreeSurgery With some variation. There are countries where veterans get more appreciation compared to Britain. And this is why I'd discourage people to enlist and why I urge servicemen to revolt against governments that mistreat them. At the end of the day the country and the government relies on the armed forces for their safety. If the armed forces collectively just decide to refuse to work, the government is screwed. They depend on soldiers. Soldiers do not depend on them. Therefore soldiers should exploit this imbalance of power to make damn sure that the government doesn't try to fuck with them.

@Reiman33 If following orders in not an excuse, then how can you expect anyone to willingly murder people on behalf of the state if he knows he might be next for the chopping block for carrying out his orders? Responsibility for warcrimes belongs AND SHOULD ALWAYS belong with the statesman who issues the orders. There is only one single exception and that is if soldiers go rogue and carry out atrocities without any orders to do so. But of there is an order and a chain of command, soldiers are and should remain blameless. They don't have a choice, especially not during a war. If you are enlisted when war breaks out, you either carry out your orders, or you'll be court-martialled for insubordination or even desertion. In some countries it's a crime punishable by death during times of war. It certainly was in Nazi Germany during the height of the war.

Well, if you're joining the Navy and can't wink, then how are you supposed to follow the time honoured Navy tradition of soliciting your fellow navymen for gay sex at sea? 😏

"Joining the army is never done for an internal reason" I know about 30 dudes from the armed forces that beg to differ. They don't give a crap about country or government. They wanted to join because they'd get a gun and be told to blow stuff up and getting paid for doing it.

I'd never join an army. Would consider joining a home defense militia though. Anything that involves travelling overseas to blow stuff up in other countries to serve the interests of bankers and wealthy people is a no-go for me. Their "interests abroad" can rot for all I care.

@vladtepes8461 Exactly. And without a chain of command, no military force will ever be able to function.

@Tangarisu I'm not British. And also, you're wrong. Even without Nato, the UK still has nuclear weapons. No country with nukes will ever be "wiped out".

@balasaashti3146 You're trying to tell me that the U.S soldiers don't carry out orders that violates the constitution all the time?
