It is possible to prevent people from coming back. Basically, everyone who applies for the cash payment to leave, must also be required to submit their name, fingerprints and mugshots to a digital registry. So if they do attempt to come back, they'll be demanded to submit fingerprint and face scans a second time and if there is a match in the registry, they'll be denied entry completely or deported and not get more money

We don't want to stop offering "free stuff". Because we made the free stuff work quite well for a long time. The issues didn't begin with the "free stuff", it began with rampant and limitless immigration. The system of welfare in place was created with the explicit premise that a vast majority of people worked and paid taxes, so a minority of people who were unable to work didn't have to end up on the streets as homeless and destitute. Specifically people like the elderly, the sick and injured and people who lost their current job and temporarily need support until they can find a new job and start contributing again. When we only had this group recieving "free stuff" things were working just fine. But you can't just drop hundreds of thousands of people from abroad, who never paid taxes here and who also stay chronically unemployed for various reasons and for several years and expect such a fragile and limitef system of welfare to be able to take care of all newcomers just as well as the natives. So the problem isn't the welfare system. It never was. The problem was the immigration policy and allowing immigrants fulll access to a system they never paid into.

@ThePantera333 Create a registry and have all migrants who leave submit mugshots and fingerprints. So when they try to re-enter the country at a later date, their identity is already on record and they can be booted out.

@Jimmyjamesgannon Or one can simply exit the right to seek asylum. Once the country no longer recognize any foreigners right to seek asylum, illegals can be rounded up and deported regardless of how much they or other countries complain.

Because you can't make people with passports leave as you like. Those aren't just the rules in Sweden but in most of the world. The payments are a lesser evil here. The amount of money the government pay out is only a fraction or what these people would cost in terms of welfare and policing. Pay someone a 1000 bucks to leave the country is certainly preferable to paying several millions for healthcare, public education, social housing and so on for EACH migrant.
