Desperate times call for desperate measures. But desperate times aren't the norm either.

That was him? Yeah, certainly looks like he's getting more sensible as of late.

@knotengajin7359 And you seriously believe that half the tribe just sat around breastfeeding and completely ignored smaller mammals and birds near the camp because someone, somwhere were chasing mammoths off cliffs? No. No stone age tribe could afford that wasted labour. Every hunter/gatherer was an opportunist by default. If women foraging for berries or roots saw any ancestors of rabbits and squirrels nearby, they'd definitely kill it and add it to the food stores, and they'd get good at it too if they knew what was good for them. Male hunters would do the large game hunting, since it required long journeys as well as hauling back meat to the tribe. But women definitely hunted small game when opportunity presented itself. And both genders fished (actually stone age people ate way more fish than game meat based on the contents of ancient stool samples)

@icecold9511 Any food source available without too much invested effort in acquiring it would have been a focus. Our ancestors were not that picky about it. You take the food where it appears.

People in here talk about "hunting" as if it always entailed killing giant woolly mammoths or elk of some kind. But just to make things clear here: killing squirrels or rabbits with a sling or thrown rock qualifies as hunting too.

@Songbirdstress Erm... What do you think wet nurses did for a living before anyone invented baby formula?

@Theranthrope But they won the war.

@randomcenturion7264 Awesome yes. But it shouldn't come too cheaply. Some of the insane lefties should not be easily forgiven.
