  1. Tradition makes the individual feel less atomized. With tradition there is a CONTEXT to ones existence, and also an implicit guidance to how to live your life. In the cyberpunk dystopia, there is no context for the individual. Everyone is forced to basically invent context for themselves from scratch. Which some individuals will be able to do and quite adept at doing it, but most people won't, and they will end up feeling isolated and depressed.

  2. And just to be clear here: by tradition I do not mean "religion". I am an atheist myself, so there's no religious faith behind my reasoning. Even as an atheist I celebrate christmas and easter with my family. I don't do it to reinforce faith on my own part and neither do my family. We do it because the traditions and rituals involved helps to bring our thoughts to our deceased family members, and knowing that we're enjoying the same foods and common rituals that they did. It's bonding for the family members who are still alive and serve the purpose of reconnecting with those who aren't. And our traditions are also very similar to every other family in my country celebrating christmas or easter as well. So it's a common ground for every citizen.
