Oh yeah, trade unions are so bad. Employees should just accept poor working conditions and getting shafted over pay at every turn, and accept wrongful termination without having equal resources to fight such decisions from their bosses in court. What a great idea...

@Eidolon1andOnly Sounds more like you're a naive moron who have absolute faith in the free market fairy. Sorry, but in the real world: employers always try to skimp on what their employees are entitled to by right of law and contract. Wherever they can squeeze a dollar and get away with it, even if it's in breach of contract or violating the law, they will attempt it. And an employee standing completely alone won't have a snowball's chance in hell to challenge it, when the employer has millions of dollars invested in a legal team to cover his tracks, while the lone employee can't afford any legal fees whatsoever. Unions are absolutely integral to intimidate and threaten employers with real, financial consequences if they step out of line, as well as making sure that employees will get help from legal counselors and knowing their rights. And you literally have zero arguments to counter this fact.

@Eidolon1andOnly Aww, did I hurt your fragile feelings by calling you a moron? I'm so sowwy! 😢 It's quite telling that you had no counter argument to what I said. And instead you focused on ONE word that you found insulting. Very "progressive" of you. And no, i'm not a far lefty. I'm actually a business owner nowadays. But I know for a fact that free markets will never be of a net benefit to employees for a multitude of reasons. Just taking something so simple as inflation, and the fact that employers never voluntarily make a bid for pay raises that at least matches inflation without a fight, is quite telling of the mindset of employers in general. They literally think it's fair to raise the wages of their employees in a way where inflation will dig into the value of their wages, so employees will de facto work for LESS pay every year rather than more.

@Eidolon1andOnly Actually no, the unions who succumb to Marxist ideals are usually the ones considered to be failures, since they operate on false pretenses. In my nations history, the unions have mostly had clear goals in mind about securing workers rights and making sure that the pay raises to the employees match the success of the company overall. Their goal isn't to "seize the means of production" but to ensure that workers are paid their fair share, and don't end up getting stiffed of what they are owed. If you're gonna complain about some unions being infiltrated by marxists, then where are your complaints about employers resorting to unethical business practices who still end up staying in business and turning handsome profits despite their misdeeds? Because the latter is far more common than the former. The free market fairy is absolute shit at sanitizing the market from bad actors.

@justonecornetto80 Maybe so, but that's not a reason to dismiss trade unions altogether. Normally a contract with a trade union ensures security for the employer as well. The contract stipulates that workers don't go on strikes or engage in a challenge against the employer for the duration of the contract. Employees who are treated fairly don't go on strikes or unionize. It's really that simple. And as for bringing the economy to it's knees: cry me a river. Unethical employers don't respond to "peaceful" action. If you're not hurting wallets, you never get them to listen. They only understand the language of money and if your action don't cause them to lose money, they have no incentive to change.
