Also when teaching young boys history. Don't start out with years, political figures and wars. Start out with the stuff boys find interesting: weapons and armour. Then you segue into the wars, to add context to the weapons and armour. Then move on to the political figures who started wars and ended them. And THEN you can start teaching them about the years because by then they will have a grasp of the context.

I don't know about that. Recollections from my own childhood I remember that I would definitely filter some adverts from others. Some toys and candy just didn't appeal to my tastes at the time, while others did. The subject matter of the toy being advertised played a bigger part in getting me to want it more than the marketing itself.

Have boys do plastering, engine mechanics and programming. That way you'll catch both the more practically gifted ones and the intellectually gifted ones.

I would say that I have a nihilistic world view. But it's balanced by a strong sense of family and national pride. Since my worldview is devoid of divinity, I've found most comfort and purpose in supporting my kin and preserving the legacy of my ancestors. Gods are too abstract and arbitraty to me. But my parents, my siblings, my nieces, my woman and my daughter, these are real. And I feel connected to them in a way that isn't easily explained, and I want to be there for them as well as rely on them during those moments I need support as well. Same thing with my country and culture. These provide the context of where I and my family came from. Our cultures peculiarities are distinct and deeply ingrained. I wouldn't be able to feel "at home" outside of it. At the end of the day I do understand that in an intellectual level, the universe doesn't operate with a discernable purpose. But unlike other nihilists out there, I don't see why that should be a reason to be depressed all the time and live without a purpose. I am a man. And as a man it is my duty to attempt to reshape my surroundings into something I find subjectively more appealing. The universe may be without a purpose in it's default configuration... SO GO OUT THERE AND CREATE SOME PURPOSE DAMNIT!

@cx2900 That's a silly position. Can you name any single product that you have been "hooked for life" by because you saw some marketing for it as a kid? While children are more impressionable than adults, I seriously disagree with the notion that advertisement is "brainwashing" anyone. In fact, a lot of advertisement is completely redundant, but somehow it has become some widely accepted truism that companies must pour billions into advertisement to be able to sell at all, which is ludicrous.

@TuhljinTampergauge Reagan was one of the absolutely worst presidents in U.S history. I say that as a right-winger. Oh and who are supposed to be "conservatives allies" here? Lolbertarians? No thanks. I'd rather toss the lolberts in the same dustbin as I toss socialists.

@polderrican Yeah and frankly they're all idiots for doing so. Coca-Cola doesn't need advertising at all since even primitive tribesmen living in the Amazon jungles know what Coke taste like. There comes a point when your product is so ridiculously familiar and established on the global market where any money spent on advertisements is money wasted.
