As a counterpoint to risk-taking: if you only take risks where the consequences only affect you, then that's fine. But what about the situations when people depend on you as a man? Take my situation for example. My mother has accrued some serious debts in her life, and because I don't want to see her homeless or that we as a family lose the house that my grandfather left behind in which she lives in, i'm currently paying off those debts of hers. Combined with the fact that I recently became a father and have an infant daughter to support, I can't help but feel that it would be deeply irresponsible of me to gamble with my job and income just to gain some personal satisfaction of always speaking my mind in the workplace, when I know that my views would certainly land me with punitive actions from my employer. I don't like it, but for the moment I have to do the responsible thing by keeping my head down and not rocking the boat at my place of work. I'm not an online influencer. I don't have a massive audience who'll bail me out with crowdfunding donations if I get fired or my prospects of wage increases get docked because a boss might decide that I have "problematic opinions". I wish my parents were in a better situation and I didn't have to worry about losing that property. But as the situation is, I have to deal with it as it is until the mission is complete.
