  1. Could've made the shield entirely of titanium instead. That way it would've had the same protection, but weigh less than the steel version. A friend of mine who works at a metal shop made some ballistic plates for his plate carrier from titanium sheets as well. Significantly lighter than the standard issue stuff (although probably more expensive, but it's not like he cared since he could just take scrap titanium pieces that the company didn't have any use for anyway).
