Muay Thai is a sport. Systema is a military hand to hand combat system. One is for show. The other is for killing. The sports practicioners of Systema aren't using the style correctly.

How do you train kyukushinkai safely? If it's full contact and you make kicks to the face, a single kick risks killing your sparring partner.

@metatronyt : Yes, it was mostly the spinning kicks that inspired my question. If you hit the guy on the forehead full force like that then he'll probably survive but getting knocked out. But an unfortunate strike to the temple or other "softer" part of the skull may cause a lethal brain haemorrage. Thanks for the reply, Raf!

@stephenglazer4224 I know that Krav Maga is the taught hand to hand combat system taught by the IDF. And as you may have noted, i'm fairly certain I mentioned Krav Maga as an effective system, due to the fact that it is used by the IDF. I'm not saying that Muay Thai is useless in it's entirety. What i'm saying is if Muay Thai really was such a potent form of martial arts, then these armed forces would've utilized Muay Thai in it's entirety, rather than going with Systema or Krav Maga (the latter of which uses PARTS of Muay Thai, but replace the majority of the style with it's own or borrowed elements from other styles). This because the needs and purposes of the military are different to the needs and purposes of exhibition fighters. The armed forces of the world are focused solely on practicality in as many imaginable situations as possible. The reason why they only incorporate small parts of an exhibition fighting style, is because they had to trim a lot of "fat" from the fighting style (fat being elements that are deemed useless to their purposes). This applies to Krav Maga and it also very much applies to Systema. Now you may have experience with a lot of martial arts, but I humbly suggest that you'll have a difficult time convincing me that the style of a ring- or cage fighter would be more effective in a real world life and death situation than the style trained and utilized by a member of the armed forces. One practices martial arts for sport. The other practices martial arts to kill as well as keeping themselves alive in the line of duty.

@kiddvandal91 : Every single martial art in the world did. That doesn't mean that it's current iteration is useful for it to the same degree as others are.

@stephenglazer4224 : How many members of the armed forces in the world train Muay Thai over Systema for use in military action?
1
@stephenglazer4224 : Russia, yes. And how many members does the armed forces of Russia consist of? Do you think any of them would prefer Muay Thai over Systema in any hostile situation? Especially when even the Thai armed forces don't practice Muay Thai in their training? (Thailands military academy only teaches Muay Lerdrit, which is mostly inspired from Ling Lom, with only a tiny number of punches and kicks from Muay Thai) There's a reason why the armed forces don't go for Muay Thai. Because it's not effectice enough for their purposes.
