@ShadowCollie141 It is pretty hard to imagine actually. The danger from covid has proven to be quite harmless by comparison. And our high-tech societies couldn't even contain it at all. By the time the authorities got their thumbs out of their asses and imposed restrictions, it was already too late because the virus had already arrived at every shore in the world. People should really count their blessings because, as far as pandemics go, it hasn't been particularly lethal. If something like the black death struck us now, and the medical professionals couldn't produce a cure within the first few weeks, we'd be pretty screwed.

If something like the Black Death would hit us today. We would be screwed. Bear in mind, that although travel did happen back in the middle ages, it was nowhere near as frequent or as quick as modern transit methods are. So if it could wipe out 1 in 3 Europeans back then when travelling was done by walking, horseback and sailing ships, you don't even want to contemplate about how rapidly it would spread when people spread the infection while travelling places by car and airplane.

@Orinslayer I suggest you read my post one more time.

What should terrify you is the fact that DESPITE their mode of travel back then was so slow, it could still spread pandemics so rapidly. Imagine the same thing happening today, when more people are travelling internationally and much faster compared to only using sailing ships and horseback riding.
