I suspect that the underlying reason why people tried to ban the crossbow is due to the fact that it made armour less protective since bolts could go through plate. So knights as well as kings became much more vulnerable to ranged attacks than before

I can definitely see fully armored knights collapsing due to fighting in armour. But most likely due to exhaustion of fighting, along with overheating and lack of oxygen. Even in pleasant weather armour is not that well ventilated after all and will insulate body heat.

Did hollywood really come up with the myth that armour made the wearer very immobile though? I've seen a lot of hollywood films "inspired by history" along with sword and sorcery fantasy films. And the first myth that comes to mind from those sources are depicting armour as very flimsy and ineffective (like people thrusting swords straight through plate armour seemingly with no effort). The idea that armour is excessively restrictive and cumbersome is something I've seen a lot more in rule systems for table top roleplaying games and video games where they will impart all manner of unrealistic penalties for wearing "heavy" armour (plate and mail) But that's just going off my frame of reference. There could be films showing this that I haven't seen.

I wonder if bronze cannons might also have been safer than iron cannons? 🤔 Since Bronze is a softer metal, then if you fire an iron ball out of a bronze cannon, and something in the barrel cause the iron ball to stick, then it's possible that the softee bronze would just deform and let the cannonball pass through, as opposed to firing iron balls from iron cannons that might cause the cannon to explode due to overpressure
