From the perspective of the roman: if you're not some fancy battle mage, opposed to rome. They don't care about your magical abilities.

It does seem like Christ existed based on the evidence. The point of dispute is whether the miracles performed were real or not, or whether Christ was actually the son of God.

@oservandobrasileiro8628 Don't start this. Nothing good will come from it. If the teachings of Christ leads you to live a clean and virtous life, then i'm happy for you. But please, let me burn in hell the way I choose to as the irreverent pagan that I am. If your god is real, he will sort us all out in the end. I've made my choice and you've made yours. Let's just leave it at that. And I promise you, if I do end up in hell, I'll make it my personal mission to make Satan's life miserable. 😉

@oservandobrasileiro8628 None. I came to the conclusion that leading a more or less virtuous and responsible life is it's own reward. I don't need the threat of hellfire to do it. I do it because it makes me feel better about myself, and it makes all interactions with other people more agreeable.

@oservandobrasileiro8628 There is a very big universe out there. With intriguing wonders and natural forces that just intrigues me more than the biblical narrative. According to the bible, a great father in the sky made everything. According to astrophysics, the very atoms of our bodies were created by stars exploding aeons ago. And the atoms in my right hand were in all probability forged in a different star than the atoms of my left hand. These insights are what blows my mind and gets my imagination going. And I'd hope to be able to explore it further some day. But even if I don't, maybe I can make it so my children or grand children will. The strive to "see" it trumps my instincts of taking things on faith alone. I was born a pagan though. With pagan ancestry. But the pagan myths, while fantastic, aren't more real to me than the Biblical stories.

@darkbeastofprey I wasn't brought up with any religious beliefs. Whatever religion I was taught was through school. To me, getting taught religion was like being taught litterary fiction. The Bible and the Poetic Edda's are basically on the same level of significance as Moby Dick and Gullivers Travels to me.

Romans: "Roma Invicta!" Jesus Christ: "Hold my jug of water, which I will later turn to wine" 😏

@andrewm5788 Yeah. I'm not religious, but I don't dispute the existence of Christ. To me, he was just another cult leader basically. Just like there's been many people before him claiming to be messianic figures, and plenty came after him as well. He's more famous because for one he had a large gathering of followers in a time when "critical thinking" wasn't really in vogue, and also because his execution was very public and prolific.

@oservandobrasileiro8628 What you're talking about is canonical retconning though. It's not the original narrative or interpretation of the Bible. For a long time, the official canon was that creation was only about 12.000 years old. Science has proven that this isn't correct.
3
@oservandobrasileiro8628 No, I don't. I believe in some of his theories that have been put to the test and been proven to be correct. But parts of them being correct, doesn't mean that all of them are. And most of what he said in his lifetime has not been proven or disproven yet.
3
@oservandobrasileiro8628 It was also written by people who had no scientific knowledge. So they were basically talking out of their collective asses, with no evidence to support their claims. Just like every, single religious mystic that came before them.
2
@oservandobrasileiro8628 No, we reached the conclusion that I believe in science because the results that science produce are irrefutable. Your Bible on the other hand has to undergo constant retconning, changing of canon and doctrine, and trying to shoehorn in modern concepts (like the earth being older than 12.000 years) to desperatelt try to make it stay relevant.

@oservandobrasileiro8628 I can easily define what space and time are. They are a set of dimensions. Space has three dimensions, defined by the XYZ-axis' Time is also a linear dimension, moving in one direction. All dimensions can also be manipulated and warped by very strong gravitic fields produced by bodies if very dense mass.

@oservandobrasileiro8628 You don'tt think for yourself. You just take whatever a priest tells you at face value. Obediently and without question, becausr you have "faith". Me on the other hand I never take anything at face value. I question everything and have done so my entire life. I demand physical evidence in order to believe a claim. You don't. Because you're terrified of dying, so you fill your head with pretty religious nonsense to make death seem less terrifying. Your faith, like all faiths is nothing but a childish coping mechanism to psychologically deal with the concept of death.
1
@oservandobrasileiro8628 Okay, good for you. But I've never had faith to begin with. And frankly, I don't want one.
1
@oservandobrasileiro8628 That's rather presumptuous of you. My life is filled with my family, my friends, my goals and my achievements. If you can't find fulfillment in these things but require some fairytale about "Gods" to give your life meaning, then you must live a rather shitty life ti be honest. What need do I have of some semitic God's supposed ideals on a day when i'm playing tag with my niece on a summer day, and guiding her on her path to becoming an adult? I'm 33 years old. That is 33 years without ever feeling a need to have any God in my life.
1
@oservandobrasileiro8628 Just proving my point. You're getting closer to death, and that has you worried. It's the main inspiration for all religion. People don't like the idea of having their consciousness snuffed out like a candle forever. That's why they invent happy fairytales about a continuation after death. I don't expect me or my family to live for 100 years.
1
@oservandobrasileiro8628 You were quite disdainful towards me to begin with. If you hadn't pushed it or entered this argument that you can't win, there wouldn't have been any need for me to extrapolate.
1
@oservandobrasileiro8628 Coming from the person who suggested that my life will be "meaningless" if I don't start worshipping a fairytale god. If you don't want to be met with spite, then maybe you shouldn't go around insulting people like that?
