  1. Just looking at the design, segmentata should be more easily manufactured than hamata. Riveting hundreds of rings together would be time consuming no matter how you go about it. But manufacturing bands of iron, cutting them into shape and arranging into segmentata would be a quicker process so long as the industry for it is available.
