Fun fact... In Swedish "Kiss" is pronounced with a "ch" sound. "Kyss".

I think that might be an artifact of many classical films featuring roman historical characters were either british productions, or they were made in a time in the U.S where actors were instructed to adopt a british posh accent, because directors had the idea that it sounds more "sophisticated" than american twang. So people sort of associate ancient rome with posh british accents as a result. Not saying it's "right", since i'm an immersionist myself (for example, I ALWAYS go for subtitles over dubbing, because hearing non-anglophone characters speaking english in non-anglophone countries ruins immersion for me). But at least it might provide an explanation.

How to teach anglophone speakers to pronounce latin correctly: "So read the Latin aloud... But basically do it like a stereotypical Mexican or Spaniard and you'll pronounce it somewhat correctly" 😁

@urbanwarrior3470 Dude, i'm a native swedish speaker. "Y" is NEVER pronounced like "U" in Swedish.

It's hardly surprising that ecclesiastic latin takes over like it does. While the Catholic church is a part of italian history, the problem with the church is that it has, for centuries worked towards obliterating cultural identities and customs that predates it. Maybe not as profusely today, but there were times when they really took the torch and the hammer to "paganis".
