  1. For sure. I mean it's difficult beating out those shapes even with modern tools like electric drills, angle grinders and pneumatic hammers. Doing it with period tools was a real chore.

  2. They say the vision slits on the closed helmets were a point of weakness. I'm wondering what would happen if you placed some vertical metal bars lining the vision slit. Granted you'll lose some more vision. But unless they have a dagger or sword tapered like a needle, it would be hard to get through while still granting the wearer some vision.
