Chinese crossbows are so cool. I'm particularly fond of the Shuko-Nu. Yes it's not the most powerful crossbow in history. But the fact that they invented a SEMI-AUTOMATIC crossbow is a pretty darned respectable feat of engineering in my view.

A question regarding hereditary titles in Rome: isn't it also true that the hereditary nature of these titles and positions wasn't necessarily tied to bloodlines? A roman emperor could adopt junior members of nobility as sons, to which they didn't even have familial ties and these adopted sons did inherit the office rather than the emperors biological sons. At least from what I've read.

Well, it might have to do with the fact that people are often curious of the outcome between a clash of titans. Not dissimilar to how people wonder about the outcome of a match between the best boxers or hand-to-hand fighters in the world.
