Did the samurai really "protect" the people though? It seems that the japanese have a different view of the samurai clans in that they operated more like a mafia, whereas the "noble" aspects of the samurai seem to be more of a western artifact. At least those are the impressions i've read about. So that's why i'm curious if the samurai had some "heroic" and noble aspects to Bushido, centeref around being protectors of the peasant class or not.

@Rawrshuga What's happening in the U.S right now is a result of violent people using political protests as a pretence to commit violent crime, and the protesters themselves being radical extremists thinking that violence and destruction of property are acceptable methods to get some sort of message across. The Police in the U.S have been nothing but professional in response to these protestor antics. In other countries, the authorities would've dealt with the protesters with live firing machine guns and not give it a second thought. The "protesters" in the U.S should be grateful that all they've had to experience are truncheons, teargas and rubber bullets.

@manonthemoon5335 If the cops tell you to move or disperse, they have the right to do so. Refuse, and the have a full right to "instigate" violence. And I support them all for it. "Protesters" are all just vile, lefty scum anyway. I have no sympathy for them whatsoever.
