  1. If the wielder is stronger than a normal human, then the wielders attacks would be more effective if using a sword with normal proportions. If he's fighting against monsters, a stupidly large sword like the buster sword isn't going to be more effective either. If the monsters have armored skin that's hard to penetrate, then it would make more sense if the sword LONGER than normal (since you'd have a longer blade to pierce through thick, monstrous hides and be able to damage internal organs). The game is pretty good (although I dislike the arbitrary xp-grinding necessary to progress in the story of the game) but in terms of character design, Cloud Strife using such a ridiculous sword is a glaring piece of bad visual character design. It doesn't make him look "cool", it makes him look stupid for lugging it around.
