Naughty Caulifla: Europe didn't become the center of civilization by "taking it chill". Every battle fought required Europeans to come up with new weapons, inventions and defenses to beat their opponents. The warlike behaviour is what pushed technological progress further than any other cultures did.

viniz200: Actually, you're wrong. If we count the instsnces of invention and technological progress throughout human history, there's actually more inventions being made per day during times of war than during times of peace. And it makes sense if you look at the underlying factors of it. During times of peace, what do you risk losing unless you're more innovative than your rivals? Money? Market shares? Sure, it hurts but it's not the end of the world. In war however, you risk losing your very life and society if you're not smarter and better armed than your rivals. War is the greatest spur in human technological advancement than any other factor. So it's factually and historically incorrect to just view war as some sort of purely destructive factor, when the technological products of war invariably end up being used in civilian applications when the wars end.
