  1. Smaug's representation was the only thing I liked about the film. Having strange motives like that made the giant monster into something I found reminiscent of a Lovecraftian diety. Which I think proper dragons should be. They're not just big beasts. They're galaxy-brained and ancient things that don't bother with novelties like human morality, and their motives are understood only by them.
