  1. The shoehorned gothic horror elements is what turns me off from the game. I also didn't like RE4 particularly much. In my view, RE4 represented the franchise jumping the shark too much. To me Resident Evil is supposed to be survival horror with themes of unethical scientific experiments gone awry, causing catastrophic damage. Crawling through dilapidated castles and fighting vampires and werewolves doesn't do it for me.
