And now you know why Warhammer fans were not too happy about the transition from Warhammer Fantasy Battles to Age of Sigmar.

I think, that just by starting something fresh and original, you'll have a much better chance at attracting an audience, even if your original setting has to use a "woman of colour" as the protagonist, or ticking other PC boxed. Whereas retconning an already established setting will almost automatically garner an unfavorable reaction from it's long time fans.

Canon matters because the fans tend to be the curators of canon. These fans were the people who paid lot's of money to get your franchise started in the first place. An author is nothing without a paying audience. So one should strive to be respectful of that "early" audience that decided to give your new franchise a chance. Changing the canon that your first fans fell in love with is like spitting in their faces. And frankly it's not that hard to avoid changing canon, even for a mediocre writer/storyteller.

@nobodyshome6792 Well there you go then. My point was about the lore, not game mechanics. As for sculpts, it's pretty much the same as it's always been. Some are poor, others are significantly better. I can't agree that sculpt quality has gotten better "overall", because due to the switch over to entirely plastic models, some of them have gotten very "low resolution" when it comes to fine detail. Only the resin casts and metal casts can achieve this. The thing plastic has going for it is ease of conversion. I wouldn't trust GW to act in a competent manner from now on. They're to busy ticking boxes to placate the PC squadron.

@nobodyshome6792 The new designs are crap. Yet another excuse to tack on Space Marines into a setting where they don't even belong. Also my comment was clearly not about the rules but about the lore. If they want to re-balance the rules, then fine. But what was the point of basically nuking the entire planet yhat WHFB took place on and introduce some shitty concept about dimensonal "realms" that nobody even liked?

@KarmaSpaz12 GW did not develop the Total War series. GW just rented out the licence for it, exerting no creative control whatsoever. And unsurprisingly the devs of that game chose to have it take place in the Warhammer setting that fans actually enjoy. You'll never see a "Total War: Age of Sigmar", becaudr the devs know that it wouldn't sell. Mark my words.
