In a better world, diverse characters may have been judged by their own merit. The problem is that woke activists in entertainment media has so viciously poisoned the well to the point where any diverse inclusion feels contrived and arbitrary. They made their bed with this. So I can't really fault people for dismissing their efforts as being woke.

I can't say that Matt Stone and Trey Parker are doing any trailblazing here. They're so late to the party that it just feels like they waited until it was "safe" to talk about the issues.

@platformerfailure3257 Yeah, I kind of dismiss the writing out of hand nowadays because whenever the script feels the need to mention or show that a character is a member of a minority group: all I hear at the back of my head is "diversity hire". Didn't really want it to be this way, but after so many years of "The Message", my mind has been irrevocably warped.

@liveac3694 Well I don't go onto holding long, hateful rants about it though. I just refuse to watch or play it if I find out studios have been making a point to make something for "modern audiences" If they want to run a franchise I used to like down the toilet and lose millions of dollars in the process, then fine by me. I still have the original works.

@liveac3694 Sometimes it's deserved though. Like when they've done race swapping in a previously established franchise. There is no valid justification for race swapping, ever. Also, by watching these releases we'd be supporting the woke movie industry financially. They chose to take the industry hostage this way. So you can't blame us for judging books by their cover nowadays.
