I wouldn't use Germany as a good example, since German schools basically teach students self-hatred and everyone is expected to constantly apologize for and atone for the deeds of their ancestors. Even to the point where German politicians celebrate the eradication of the German ethnicity and nationality. It's really scary to visit Germany and see this happen first hand.
