Jeez, just slamming the door in your neighbours face when he comes over to give you a present sound extremely impolite to me. I usually don't interact with neighbours either. But if someone rang my doorbell to give me a gift as a way of saying Hello and introduction, I could never just turn it away, because it would be so impolite. You'd accept the gift, exchange some pleasantries and then not really "meet" again, except for if you cross paths in the hallway or the elevator where you say hello or good morning before going about your business. And this is what I would do DESPITE being rather introverted and not a very sociable person.

@sanserif It's really dumb though. Again, not saying that you need to be best of friends with every other tenant in your building, floor or hallway. But it's good to know who they are and where they live and so on. Adds some security to the situation since everyone will be able to know if strangers come into the building and keep an extra eye out of what they're doing. Having every tenant being atomized from the others is a surefire way of enabling burglaries and other crime.
