@williamheyman5439 Doesn't really matter if you study history or not. History will repeat itself anyway. People just are like that. They might remember the facts of history. But they forget the severity and perspective of it within a generation or two. So dwelling on history for any other purpose than entertainment or novelty is kind of pointless.

@leppox "Voluntarily"? My hairy balls. It was wartime. If you're an enlisted man, you can't just "leave" during a war or refuse to fight. That would be a death sentence, especially in nazi germany. Rommel along with the entire Wehrmacht didn't have much of a choice in the matter. If you want to criticize the bad guys, then go after the SS instead. They weren't even military men, but just Hitlers pet psychopaths.

@irishdragon2311 Because Stalin was a paranoid moron, who feared being subjected to a military coup by the veterans who weren't all a bunch of naive, blue-eyed party loyalists. But merely being paranoid and being a moron never stopped any dictator in history from having ambitions of conquering foreign territories.
