Trisha: Badass dude that one. There's no shame in surrendering when you've spent all your ammunition and food on the front lines.

wood1155: It's sad how deplorable the treatment of POW's was in Germany as well as the soviet union in WW2, compared to WW1 when the Hague Conventions had recently been signed and ratified by most of the countries involved (except for the Ottoman Empire). Soldiers of different nations might be enemies on the battlefield. But that doesn't mean you have to mistreat or be disrespectful towards captured enemy soldiers doing their duty. There's some great examples of professional courtesy between enemy combatants in WW1. Of course being a POW will never be a fun experience, but the rampant sadism and purposeful mistreatment of POW's in WW2 wasn't as prevalent in WW1. Even though it may sound strange to some people to treat a captured enemy with decency, it does make a lot of sense. For all they might be, they still have a lot in common with you as an individual soldier, and you've got to respect a person putting their own life on the line in service to their country, even if they might be your enemy.

NeoNEET: You do realize that if the Allies had lost the war, it would've been them being portrayed as an "evil empire" utilizing "mindless minions" as their soldiers right? I'm sorry but your entire post is filled with typical 20/20 hindsight. Just a statement like "it was more clear which side was good and bad back then" just goes to show how little you know of the knowledge and perspectives of the people of the involved countries. Your entire post is composed of self-righteous ignorance.

NeoNEET: Do you even know what the Versailles treaty was and how it affected germany?
5
Trisha: And both were lied to by their governments, because state control of the media was much more pronounced back then, both among the axis and the allies.

NeoNEET: The idea that various ethnic groups were subhuman was not exclusive to germany. Practically all over Europe and the U.S these ideas were accepted practically among the entire civilian populations as well as in academia and the political sphere. Trying portray germany as "evil" because they believed that humans could be categorized according to race looks pretty fucking dumb nd hypocritical when the U.S instituted things like Jim Crow laws that were kept in place until LONG AFTER Nazi Germany had been defeated. There wasn't much practical difference between Nazi Germany and the Allies at all when it comes to ideas and mindsets.

NeoNEET: No, i'm not a neo-nazi. And no, you haven't "refuted" any of my points at all. You've made ignorant statements that clearly prove your loose grasp of history, and have tried to pass them off as facts. You desperately need to go back to the school bench before trying to lecture someone like me.
4
NeoNEET: So wikipedia and some unnamed "textbook" are your sources, that you have yet to present fully, even after having been asked to do so? Colour me impressed...

Franco Andrés: It wasn't the Wehrmachts job to question direct orders from the politicians ruling the country. A soldiers job, general or private, is to do what they are instructed to. They do not have the luxury of choice or freedom of conscience.
3
Franco Andrés: If the civilians had "fought with the allies". Then clearly they weren't civilians at all. This is a perfect example of why it's idiotic to "join in the fighting" while not wearing a uniform yourself.

NeoNEET: Not once have I said that I think "the nazis were cool". Your problem is that you don't know anything about the whermacht or how they differed from the nazis. The SS were the actual nazis. A PARAmilitary organization. They were not members of the wehrmacht. The wehrmacht was an older organization that defended germany before the nazi party even existed. Your other problem is that you don't understand what it means joining up to become a soldier. You think soldiers can just "quit" if the elected government starts giving orders they don't like, which has never been the case in any country in the world. When you sign up for service, the government practically owns you. You sign away any rights to "quit" or refuse orders or disagreeing. That's the part you fail to understand. So, like I said: go fuck yourself. You don't know shit about shit. You are in no position to educate me about history or military action.
3
NeoNEET: Oh yeah? Just like how the germans made bars of soap, lamp shades and furniture out of the fat, skin and bones of dead jews. Because totally legit sources claim they did! By the way, I still haven't seen you present any sources. So I guess my statement about you being ignorant of history has to stand.

Duke Craig: This was my point before the self-righteous moralist NeoNEET started his sermons. The soldiers task is a thankless one, and regardless of which country they fight for, they have almost every detail of their duty in common. Another factor is the fact that as an enlisted man, you aren't really allowed to follow your conscience, when duty demands that you go against it. (which it often does) Which is why I don't think it's right to judge the Wehrmacht during WWII. They didn't choose their leaders or orders. They just happened to be enlisted at a time when evil men rose to power. They did their duty, and deserve respect for it. Regardless who they fought for.

Duke Craig: Can't say I've heard that one. But like a glove sounds about right. I wonder if cows would experience roughly the same feeling if anyone designed a pair of pants for them? :D
