Hehe, in Sweden they strapped a recoilless cannon to a freaking Jeep for tank hunting purposes. XD The reasoning being: you don't need armor to fight tanks. You just need mobility and being able to spot the tank before it spots you. Plus it's cost effective and easier to field in great numbers.

There is no "blast back" that would tip over a jeep in a recoilless gun. Also, it works because of the terrain mentioned. Hitting targets up to 2 miles away assumes that you're going to have 2 miles of open ground to target from. Which you'll rarely find in Scandinavian forests. Also this was for cold war era purposes when it was implemented. Russia didn't have sophisticated laser guided targeting systems for their tanks back then. That stuff was still being developed.

@oddballsok : Did I say that? No I don't believe I did. So why even ask?

@CallanElliott Sweden isn't very mountainous though (only the north, and northeastern parts). Norway is "worse" in that regard. But what you do have in Sweden is miles and miles of dense spruce and pine forests. The kind of enviroment where the swedish armed forces train to fight the most. But the jeeps would've made sense in that kind of enviroment too, combined with the doctrine of the armed forces called "The Free War". Basically it's guerilla warfare but with a conventional army. The country just doesn't have the GDP necessary to maintain a large enough fighting force to keep a foreign invader "out" of the country. So instead they're betting on pulling the foreign invaders in and making their stay as miserable and untenable as possible. The russians are regarded as the primary threat in this scenario. And they had their fair share of being subjected to that kind of warfare when they invaded Finland during The Winter War.
