r3dhour: Unless we push for google and youtube to become nationalized.

Shiva: Yup. Nationalize google and youtube. Make them subjects to the U.S constitution and take away all power and all rights from their owners. I don't care how butthurt all capitalists and libertarians become over it. Sometimes nationalization is a good thing.

Jason Maddle: No. Socialism is about transforming all of society according to socialist beliefs. This suggestion is just about subjecting google and youtube to a course of action that happen to be somewhat socialist, while leaving the rest of society alone. Google anf youtube shouldn't object. They do after all spend so much time goint after right wing content creators and constantly virtue signal about how great left wing ideology is. It's only fair that their board of directors and shareholders get a taste of what they preach.

Adam Sailor: It shouldn't focus on anything. It should just be a video service that let's people upload whatever they feel like, except perhaps outright illegal shit like child porn. A self-respecting video hosting service doesn't interfere with the opinions or content put forward in it's users videos whatsoever.

darth brexit: Well capitalists don't like free markets either. For instance, the "war on drugs" was mostly funded by capitalists.

Roughcovers: It could, as long as the platform is subject to the U.S constitution and the first amendment. Governments can be very oppressive, but even the most oppressive president or congress has historically had severe difficulties in trying to ignore the constitution.

Clorox Bleach: Tell me, how does the piratebay still stay alive? They never had millions of dollars to work with. And they've been targeted and harassed by both governments and private corporations for decades now.

r3dhour: I don't think you understand the phrase "buy you out". Google can't "buy anyone out" as long as the founder of the company keeps more than 50 % of the company shares for himself. That way he or she will automatically have voting majority among the board of directors and no matter if Google purchased 49 % of the other shares, they would'nt have a say in anything. Also, as a company you are not obliged to put up shares of your company on the stock market at all. Companies only do it as a means to gain investments and starting capital. But if the company was crowdfunded entirely and went on to become a self-sustaining enterprise through ad-revenue, google wouldn't be able to do shit or buy anyone out unless the majority shareholder himself decides to sell out.
