I tried coining the term "pan-nationalism". The ideal of nationalism for your own country, combined with the respect and sympathy for other people desiring to also maintain their own unique nations and culture. I stand up for the right to hold both my own national identity, and also for the right of others to hold theirs. Nationalist projects of the past frequently lead to armed conflicts and wars of conquest. But the idea of the nation does not require you to violate the borders and sanctity of other nations. This is why I support Americans right to keep their own borders, even if i'm not american. This is why I support the British right to keep their own borders, even if i'm not British.
