  2. I think you're onto something about bullying. And it's terrible to think that bullying probably created a lot of these soyboys. But bullying behaviour is an institutional failure. Being assertive does not have to manifest itself in bullying less assertive specimens of humanity. A leader does not bully, he leads and does not think less of those beneath him, but rather sees that his fellow man is in need of guidance and direction in order to become a stronger and more assertive individual eventually capable of leading others. The sergeant or lieutenant does not think the line infantry is "less". The line infantry is the strength in the sergants and lietenants arm, and the people that get shit done. But only if they are given proper guidance and instruction.
