  1. I can explain cathedrals. Humans have two pronounced components to them: intelligence and a social hierarchy. The social part drives them on a biological level to experience anxiety over feelings of loneliness. Separated from a group equals separation from purpose and station. The intelligence drives humans to observe the reality around them. Adding these two together means that while humans can be inside groups of other humans, the vastness of the discovered and inhuman universe starts pulling on those strings of anxiety through loneliness. We might be in a group on earth, but in the wider universe there is no group besides ours. And so, religious humans fill that empty void with religious fairytales and spiritualism, to try and make some kind of meaning out their own existence. It's the cosmic equivalent of daddy issues, feeling abandoned by some divine, universal father figure that looks out for them.

  2. I prefer to be only matter then. Your god is a genocidal egomaniac who treats humans like insects, sending them floods and plagues whenever he's displeased with us (despite creating us to be imperfect by design). He creates us sick, but commands us to be healthy. It's like shooting a man in the kneecap and then punishing him for not being able to run a marathon.

  3. The only problem is having to spend your time trying to co-exist with other humans... Especially the ones of a left wing persuasion. This last decade seems to have no end to brazen hypocrisy and idiocy. It really takes the jam out of the proverbial donut.
