The computer has to control the timing of the way the magnetic coils start attracting the projectile and also turn a coil off once the projectile has passed it. I don't know if they have yet perfected the sequencing of it because suckback is an artifact of improper sequencing. So with coil guns in general, there is still a lot of room for tweaking and optimizing.

@cerealkiller7143 Yeah, that's my thinking too. I remember the hurdles of it from watching The Hacksmith channel where they built a similae coil gun and how they had to tweak the settings tof the timing a lot. Must make it harder when you have projectiles of different length. Ideally the timing of the sequence will be set so there is no suckback at all. But it requires a truckload of testing.
