I don't think The Joker himself really knows how he got those scars. The problem with insanity is that your own memory can become an unreliable narrator.

@n2cable It's too extravagant. Part of what makes the Joker a fascinating character is that he seemingly just "appear" out of nowhere. He's what happens when the anonymous "everyman" finally snaps from the pressures of everyday life. He's got more in common with Michael Douglas' character in the film Falling Down, or The Narrator played by Edward Norton in Fight Club. You don't need a backstory of some ex-military person subjected to secret government experiments to explain why The Joker is made manifest.

The two boats is another one of The Jokers games where he wins regardless of the outcome. With one boat blown up, at his own hand or at the hands of any of the people on board, it's unlikely that Gotham will find out that it was The Joker himself who detonated either of the bombs. So the "message" will be sent to the population regardless.

@futurestoryteller Clearly I do since I have studied psychology at a university. Be honest, you just showed up here in the hopes of trying to 1UP a random stranger to make yourself feel better didn't you? Go look up the criteria for diagnosing ASPD in the DSM for yourself instead of wasting my time.

@futurestoryteller This is what the world of psychology would refer to as "Anti-social personality disorder". Ergo insanity.

@futurestoryteller "insane" is not a clinical term, dumbass. But colloquially speaking, yes, every disorder in the DSM could be described as insanity in some form. And no, I don't care if it offends people.
