  2. This entire conflict was a deal done over the head of the people of Ukraine. The Neocon push to dismantle Russia and gain access to the resources within its territory was started as long ago as the Clinton administration and has steadily gained ground - quite literally - during every administration since. Only if this truth is ignored can anyone argue for the continuation of the horrendous killing. That the New Statesman is now operating in this tub-thumping mode, devoid of any investigation into the origins of the conflict, is quite shocking.
