Bit of a problem here within the first half minute: the Russians, we are told, are losing; and yet this is followed immediately with the exhortation to push back against Putin. If Russia is losing, then why does 'the international community' need to do any more than watch the Russians carry on losing?

The protection of American allies is actually not always in the American interest. Germany and wider Europe are regarded as American allies, but when Biden carried out his promise to snuff Nordstream, it was done in American interest at the expense of Europe. Consequently, the powerhouse of Europe has suffered greatly, with German companies crippled by the soaring cost of alternative energy sources from who else but....the US. Regarding the basic premise punted here, that Russia is set upon global conquest and a return to the 'Soviet Empire' - on what evidence is this based? How is it considered appropriate that NATO should rock-up to the Russian border, setting up military infrastructure that is clearly designed to be forward attack bases directed at Russia; when nothing of the sort would be tolerated anywhere near US territory? Why should Russia not have its equivalent of the Monroe Doctrine?

How - if the Telegraph reports on Ukraine are so encompassing of the context that surrounds this conflict and the history that has led to the current situation - is there no mention of the concerted efforts made, since the Clinton administration and in each since, to encroach ever further eastward, so that Russia finds itself increasingly faced by NATO bases, targeted by NATO missiles? Is it legitimate simply to discard such historically verifiable developments as being simply 'Kremlin narrative'? There seems to be an essential flouting of any sense of fairness and balance in the general media in the UK, when Russia's actions are discussed. The US has very wisely, since 1823, buttressed itself from the potential danger posed by any foreign power, by upholding the Monroe Doctrine. The presence of foreign militaries - even any untoward 'influence' thereby, is simply forbidden in the US hemisphere. If for instance, Mexico were to allow Chinese bases to be built on its territory, the reaction from the US military would be swift and decisive. Why then should we expect the Russians to stand back and passively observe the gathering of force built-up all along its western borders?

@ During our talk regarding Moscow, you inferred that there was no difference between the Moscow of the Soviets and that of today. I questioned that and then you introduced the matter of imperialism. My answer dealt with matters of imperialism. If you can't cope with dialogue, fair enough. You don't want to talk about empire, I quite understand.

The Russians are not saying that they have steam-rollered Ukraine. That would be silly, as it is plain for all to see that Ukraine continues to resist. Equally clear is that the advance of the Russians is gaining pace, and the Ukrainian forces are buckling.
