So this is the metric anomaly that, to me, is glaringly in need of question. The NYT article has it that Ukraine losses stand at just under 60,000 while Russia has suffered twice that figure. None of us know who is telling the truth; but one of the very few statistics that have been held up as fact, is that the Russian artillery firing rate for the past year and more, has been between 8 and 10 times that of their opponents. Given that the great majority of deaths/casualties on the front lines are the result of artillery, this would surely have to mean that the same ratio applies? Or are we to believe that the Russian artillery crews are just firing into uninhabited fields?
