  1. History, rather the absence of it in the British mindset, has a great deal to do with how we are getting things so wrong. This goes back a long way. Read "The Genesis of Russophobia in Great Britain" by John Howes Gleason. It tells how the British government of the time set out to crush what they saw as a threat to the Empire coming from an empowering Tsarist state. This obsession has held sway throughout the later Soviet era and to this day has never left the British establishment world view - now passed on to the Washington site of that same establishment. Add to that the thinking behind Mackinder's Heartland theory, that claims that whoever has power over the core of the Asian continent will inevitably use its vast resources to dwarf any and all competition. The spectre of a Russia/China management of this hoard, freed from Anglo Saxon manipulation, strikes fear into those who have had it all their way for so long. Very recently Jonathan Haslam's "Hubris - The Origins of Russia's War Against Ukraine" shows us the extent to which this conflict is as much a result of the underhand dealings and straightforward ineptness of the UK/US pact we call NATO, as it is anything of Russia's making. It does look as though, at long last - and coincidentally, when the Russian victory hoves into view - the Western commentariat are getting around to scratching beneath the abysmal MSM narrative.
