  1. This 'coming out of the disaster'. The disaster was never - was never going to be - the viral outbreak. The disaster was the dreadful damage caused by the lockdown; and we are not coming out of it. So what that the pubs are opening again? The small/medium business sector is still pinned to the floor by restrictions, and even while there is talk of relaxation, there are mutterings of 'variants' and the need for people to be 'sensible'. We are still very much in the disaster and it is ongoing. This whole thing was, contrary to Konstantin's observation, politicised very early on in proceedings. Within days of the imposition of lockdown we were encouraged to see ourselves as living in 'a new normal'; and not too long after that, we were assured by a seeming lockstep of world leaders, that the virus was some kind of opportunity which would allow us to 'build back better'. This was a really good interview but its main weakness was in its referring to our current dire social and political situation as being in some kind of recovery stage. The reality is that the economies which feed millions of us in the west, are teetering on the precipice with respective governments appearing to do everything they can to give that final push.
