  1. More tokenism from The Spectator. Health crisis as pretext. Professor Gupta has, from the outset, been giving us the scientific reality of how to deal with viral outbreaks. She is given a platform here once again because the people running The Spectator know they have to give the impression that they are engaging with competing scientific views; but they also know that there is only the one narrow band of science being followed by those in power, and they know why that is. We are now in the sixteenth month of this catastrophic breakdown. All of the measures taken by government have been guided by SAGE and they have all been aimed towards restricting - at worst, halting entirely - the operation of the small/medium business sectors which employ the greater part of our workforce. We are in the summer lull of respiratory death-harvest. Come the fall into winter and the government's toy box of statistics will be opened again - the 'modellers' will draw their parabolic lines and the trauma tap will be turned on once again. The horrors now being inflicted on Australians will be magnified here. Lockdown+ will be a thing and the coup de gras will be performed on the economy as we know it. The new economy can only be...ahem 'Built Back Better' when the old one has been razed to the ground. All of this is something that the people who run this magazine could perhaps consider worthwhile area of discussion. They have not told us a small part of it throughout these dreadful days. Peculiar, that.
