  1. If it is the case that Russia's invasion was illegal, then that means it must have transgressed a law. That law would, in this case, have to insist that it is forbidden to invade a neighbouring state even when that state is set upon the task of attacking the invader - even when it is acting as a proxy, aided, armed and trained by much larger forces whose clear and well documented intention is to destroy the invading state. If any state were to act in the same way, using Mexico as a proxy to attack the US, then American forces would invoke the Monroe Doctrine and Mexico's territory would be invaded without hesitation. Why is there no equivalent of the Monroe Doctrine for Russia?
