  1. Interesting take, but I've heard Churchill's quote used before and I believe John Adams can be used to counter it best. "Democracy never lasts long - it soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide." And it's because authoritarians almost always get into power by democratic means. People fail to live up to the responsibility of liberal democracy and so vote for others to do it for them. Embracing a snake is inviting it's venom and thus Liberal Democracy AND human nature both fail equally and inevitably because of one another.
