Problem is the alternative would have equally hit people in a similar manner. Raising tax to get the rich to pay has never worked except to get them to move and the tax needing to be paid by the very workers it was supposed to alleviate.

@markwelch3564 newsflash: we're not Finland, Sweden and Norway.

@markwelch3564 socialism has NEVER worked in the UK. Ever. Unlike those countries - we're overpopulated; with that number swelling because of an endless stream of migrants (screw Political Correctness - that's what they are... that and an infestation), we have next to no industry thanks to the delusion of globalisation, our currency is debt based and we're surrounded by feckless idiots going on and on about climate change so keep wanting to bankrupt us further with impossible goals of green energy. On top of it all - if you're wealthy you'll avoid issue, if you're poor you'll be supported yet if you're somewhere in between you're essentially penalised for ever trying as the poor expect the help and the wealthy tax avoid - as opposed to evade; the former being perfectly legal while the latter is not. So as much as it sounds nice in theory, it's a pipedream. Why should I be expected to pay sixty percent of my income because a truck full of scroungers won't do their job? Cause that's the standard in Sweden right now.

@markwelch3564 hardly - I bust my chops off and just get by as it is - and you'd advocate having to pay more!? I'd end up needing that hospital because I'd essentially be working myself to death! Everything I've ever attained wasn't handed to me; I have EARNED it. That's always the way with Socialism - eventually you run out of other people's money. Sure invest in the country but don't be killing your own people in the process: keep in mind also the difference between public control and state control - the latter is always falsely advocated as the former. And it always results in tyranny.

@markwelch3564 think again. The wealthy will just move and the tax needs to be paid - the wealthy are gone, so who does that leave? Because I don't see those on welfare footing the bill! - Edit - 16 hours later: The coin drops.
