@robertsears8323 here's hoping the country wakes up and abolishes this outdated pomp. Monarchy is outdated and excessive!

Two points - first of all, Rommel was made to choose whether to commit suicide and have his family spared, or be let free at the cost of his family's lives. He chose the former for their sake. Second of all, the fact he was an idiot is telling, but the allies biggest mistake was allowing it to go as far as it did: for the first ten months of the war, Britain and France did...nothing. it wasn't until the Arden was traversed that things actually started moving and by then it was too late. France had the largest military at the time but they hadn't moved on since WWI and so technologically they were obsolete and in Britain, Chamberlain was a coward; choosing dishonour over war and ultimately got both in doing so. Had Chamberlain actually discovered his cajones and France actually gotten it's act together the war would have likely been over in a few months at most.

They WERE nailed through their palms. How did they get around the weight issue? Simple, they used to bound the arms with ropes.

@JCavinee and Democrats.

@dehavillandcanadatwinotter9621 you mean the same Aztecs who used to sacrifice their children on an alter and pull out their still beating hearts? I'm all for the fact of pointing out hypocrisy, but still; was happening long before England had its turn... irony being that it was the English who were the first in the world, to abolish slavery: in 1102 and then throughout the Empire at the turn of the 19th century while there are still parts of African countries and the middle east where it's still a part of life today.

Crucifixion was used as execution and as a deterrent, that is true. However they also used a lesser form to humiliate; much like how the stocks were used. No nails would be used and the condemned after being whipped would be bound for a few hours to a day or two before being let down - the punishment complete. Execution via the use of nails and the breaking of legs/spear, were mostly used for war criminals or those who committed more heinous crimes or when the leaders just wanted to illustrate a point.

@Shoebox they have more power then most realise or allow themselves to realise. If he wanted to, Charlie could easily dissolve parliament and never reform it. Law says otherwise? The monarch CAN'T be arrested or put on trial without undoing the whole established status quo so who would stop him if the people backed him up? All the technicalities and semantics have blinded people to one absolute truth - whoever has the mobs favor makes the rules and seeing how the masses are still under the psychosis driven delusion of elevating the spoilt brat, that possibility is still there; albeit next to non existent as the entire family for four hundred years have been content on sitting back and stuffing their faces. They've got people in a spin and government gets the blame; why would they undo that. They still exist because of public denial of the fact that royalty is outdated and obsolete.

@Shoebox happens traditionally after each General Election actually - why do you think the leader of the winning party has to go meet the monarch to establish one? And again they can do everything they really want and have a stooge government taking the blame and responsibility? Why do you think government is so desperate to latch onto the EU in the first place? So they can place blame on THEM for their own incompetence.

The sad thing is - scenario three WAS very much possible; there were just two MINOR details that hindered it. Those being that the French - whilst back at the beginning of the war had one of the largest armies in the world by file rank soldier size - they were incredibly outdated in terms of tech and hadn't progressed since the end of the first world war. The second was that the French Leadership was inept and British Prime Minister Nevile Chamberlain was an appeasing coward - even after declaration of war, neither Britain or France did much of anything for almost ten months from the word go. Had they actually got their thumb out and been serious; even without the US, the war would've been over within a year at the most! Instead Rommel took France by surprise via the Arden and before the end of 1940, France was done for and Britain was in for the siege forever known as Blitzkrieg. Had Chamberlain actually remained PM he would've likely caved - Churchill was a saving grace thanks to his predecessor's failure and that took the crushing blow in the Nordics to make Nevile take the hint.

As if royals have ever HAD an actual job in the last four hundred years...

Yeah I doubt Biden would do anything: that buffoon can't find the floor even when he lands flat on his face.

Further facilitating my stance that he, like the entire family are nothing less then a pack of spoilt undeserving brats. And to think the country encourages them!

Sad thing is we're in a Zombie Apocalypse already!
