  1. Because unfortunately the intelligent ones are in the minority of the public. Were we the majority, we would have stopped the status quo a long while ago. However the majority are divided into the distracted, the deluded and the disinterested: who blindly vote simply out of habit and no thought about it - hence it's said that Democracy is always only a single day away from a dictatorship welcomed in with thunderous applause.
