Yup, neither is it a government's job to tell people what to do. They can advise but you have just as much right to ignore.

Which is not getting much coverage curiously...

Feeding your kids junk food isn't abuse. Not teaching them to be self dependant and responsible for their own actions and choices IS.

@jimmyzoom1143 not that it's any of your business, but my kids have a mix over the week for breakfast, occasionally a cereal, sometimes bacon butties, sometimes porridge depending on what I think is right. They have packed lunches which I determine what is right or not because all they feed at their school is comparable to rabbit food. I let my kids eat when they're hungry and trust them to use their senses but I also expect them to behave and why? Because despite my work load I actually sit down and TALK with them and have them do other things aside from sit on their ass and play on their consoles. You know, the things parents SHOULD be doing, instead of having feckless, pretencious do gooders lecturing on and on when they do worse themselves. So you can blame sugar and all that shit all you want, but at the end of the day you take personal responsibility for your own actions; this world and everyone else owes you and everybody else nothing.

@jimmyzoom1143 and that's a person's personal responsibility to choose whether to eat it or not, not some nanny state holding our hands. As for parents it's their responsibility to teach that to their kids. If I want to treat my son or daughter to a McDonald's then who is anyone to dictate to me that I can't?

@kingsnurglegurglesonthevik4517 no thanks, your wannabe majesty; I'm already happily married.

No power over those who can think for themselves.

Precisely, but have you noticed? In your argument about "Those with lack of care" that's the politician's number one trick: have everyone at each other's throats and not theirs. Rightfully and I agree with you that we aren't responsible for the irresponsibility of others, but focusing on them doesn't solve the issues of those who would put us at odds.

@jimmyzoom1143 you make a great deal of assumptions and once again; I'll indulge you, not that it's any of your business how I act as a father. From 5 years old they've been taught to budget, by the time they were both 8 years, me and their mother personally had them learning to cook and to bake and every Saturday is rotated between them - it's their choice what we have as a meal. I made sure they started learning to sew, use the washing machine and clean up after themselves; instilling in them a valued principal of hard work and equal reward. I won't put myself forward as Father of the Year, but she and I damn well do more then most of the wasters who left education the same year I did; a generation of parents with the maturity of kids having kids and blaming everyone and everything else but themselves for their mishaps.

@jimmyzoom1143 thank you.

Or why not both?

That's their own business.

@shaund4155 then why should theirs pay for say your doctor's bill? Or say you're at work and break your leg, why should my insurance contributions pay for your care and treatment due to your negligence or your work place's? They put in just as much as you do.

@alisonjmiller5339 and I'm not disagreeing with you; I'm the sort of guy who goes to a pub after work, has a pint and thinks to himself "Gee, do I want some bacon butties, a takeout or just figure to hell with it and treat myself to a Ben and Jerry's when I get home?" What I'm saying is that they use the matter of 'you and them' to create friction and tensions.
