People never learn that lesson - because to do so would mean EVERYONE would need to pay attention and involve themselves in politics and depend on their own means to stand and speak for themselves. And noone wants to do that - forever in the shadow of that mantra "There are shepherds and there are sheep. The sheep follow their shepherd blindly for their own benefit and protection, unaware that one day the shepherd is going to turn around, sheer and eat them."
