  2. I didn't think the world was quite as dumb as it turned out to be. That's a mistake I can't stop making because it is nearly impossible to fathom the full depth of human stupidity. It could have been so much less... We had, if anything (IF), an excessive reaction to novel viruses in the preceding two decades. Medical technology and the capacity to work remotely had never been better. Vaccination campaigns in poor countries were at their peak. And in the end we threw all of our advantages away.
